No blog in November 2023 - there are personal reasons for this but here is one for December, the last month of the year.
The month started with lots of Christmas parties - very early, I know! On 1st December the weather was brilliant and we had a Christmassy social tennis morning at our club, followed by a fantastic Presentation Evening and Christmas Party in the St Ives Harbour Hotel (formerly known as the Porthminster). I was pleased to receive my newly engraved ladies singles trophy (for the 4th time) - and for the first time I achieved the "double" - winning the ladies doubles as well in the same year! (I have won the ladies doubles twice before with different partners). It is really nice to share that trophy with my super doubles partner Annette. The Scottish-German combination seems to work well.
After a most enjoyable party night (and lots of dancing!!!) I had a Christmas dinner for my Germany-speaking group "Stammtisch" and a "Church" lunch the following day. It's been all go! The next party will be my works do, followed by Rotary lunch and some private parties - and then it is time for the family to arrive in stages. I shall be glad to have a bit of a rest after all that.
My art is still going well. Being a member of the Visual Arts Association is good and it is my intention to take part in more opportunities and competitions next year. The collection of materials on our lovely beaches still fills me with pleasure. Time is the biggest problem. Sometimes I just don't have enough hours in the day. I have only been to one Christmas Fayre this year. There were so many this year that I think customers are better off looking on Facebook, Facebook Marketplace or on my website if they want to buy anything. These fairs (tables) cost money and sellers will have to absorb the cost of the table in the sale of their products. I am trying to keep my art at a reasonable price. This does not mean that I am against markets/fairs etc but participation can be costly.
Enough said, I am due to make mince pies so the kitchen is calling. I wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and successful New Year.
